Amy Winehouse Will be remembered!!!

The beautiful, soulful, Grammy Award-winning Amy Winehouse, was reportedly found dead at her London apartment on Saturday July 23, 2011, shortly before 16.05 hours. She was 27.  London’s Metropolitan Police released also a statement about finding a body but didn’t identify the singer: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1. According to UK’s daily mail, “On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.”

Her U.S. recording label issued a statement, “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.”

Amy, who was to some, well-known for her struggles with addiction, as others for her musical hit such as “Rehab” and “Back to Black”, & “You Know I’m No Good”, was in rehab as recently as May and canceled a planned summer tour of Europe in June, following a disastrous appearance in Belgrade, Serbia.

Everyone from critics to celebrities are still in the state of shock about her passing, and are sending the heartfelt condolences. This is what was said:

Dr. Drew: “SO sad, another lost to addiction. A reminder this is often a fatal condition. Recovery is possible, but sadly not for Amy Winehouse.”

Rihanna: “I am genuinely heartbroken about this. Dear God have mercy!!! I am SICK about this right now!” In another, she wrote “U made a MAJAH impression on this industry and throughout the world, in such a short space of time…too short!”

Big Boi: “Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and now Amy Winehouse. All died aged 27. RIP to you all.”

Usher:  “I’m so sad to hear the horrible news of Amy Winehouse’s death. I’m so happy I knew you Amy…Rest Well. Gone Too Soon…we’ll miss you!!””

Leann Rimes: “RIP Amy Winehouse. So sad to see such a talent gone and her life end in tragedy. This makes me terribly sad.”

Kelly Osbourne: “i cant even breath right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”

Ricky Martin (in His Native Spanish): “Me acabo de enterar. Que dolor y que coraje. Es muy fuerte. Descansa colega, descansa. ERES LIBRE!”

Rick Ross: “Wanted to collab w/ Amy Winehouse…r.i.p…smoking 1 in your memoryyy!!”

Khloe Kardashian: “Wow! I just heard about Amy Winehouse passing away! Wow! So sad 😦 what an amazing talent”

As we all know, Winehouse’s health often appeared fragile.  She suffered from many disorders ranging from substance abuse, mental health issues, self-harm, depression, and eating disorders. In June 2008 and again in April 2010, she was taken to hospital and treated for injuries after fainting and falling at home. Her father said she had developed the lung disease emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack, although her spokeswoman later said Winehouse only had “early signs of what could lead to emphysema.”

In July 2010 Winehouse was quoted as saying her next album would be released no later than January 2011, which has since passed. It’s sad to know that we won’t get to see the outcome of “what would’ve been” the better days of Amy.

  1. I was reading SPIN yesterday and reflecting on how long it’s been since “Teen Spirit”, Kurt Cobain, and where I was when I heard that. Now I hear about this awesome soul sister whose music I first heard on my way to a hair appointment. She transported me to the ’60s and it was love at first sound. Brava, Ms. Winehouse.
